Forbes contributor Maureen Sullivan poses a great question: “Do you know how much, on average, Americans spend on each of the more than 46 million students in the country’s public schools?” Her pursuit of the answer provides a nice synopsis of just how poorly understood school funding is, and why that is problematic. Her reporting is based on a new release by EdChoice (formerly known as Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice), a report entitled “2016 Schooling in America Survey: Public Opinion on K-12 Education and School Choice.”
